Cyprus gripped by sizzling heatwave
The weather continues to scorch the island with temperatures hitting the forties and remaining hot and humid for the next couple of days.
A heatwave, with relentless sun, blazing heat and humid conditions making it uncomfortable and at times unbearable, hit the island over the weekend and it seems it’s staying until at least the end of this week.
The nights are also to remain hot and sticky. The Government has issued a warning to the public to refrain from going out in the sun during midday (12:00- 16:00), and to protect themselves by wearing light cotton clothes, drinking plenty of water, wearing suncream and taking regular cool showers. In addition the Department of Labour also issued a warning to workers to take extra care during the smoldering heatwave.
High temperatures and humidity can endanger workers lives or seriously affect their health.
Employers are being warned by the Department of Labour to enforce caution and to protect workers from over working in the heat. All people are reminded to take extra breaks and to stop if conditions became unbearable.
The law states that workers must be protected from the harsh conditions and be able to rest in the shade and hydrate themselves.
Inland temperatures will hit highs of 40°C, the coast will have highs of 36 °C and the mountains will have highs of 26 ° C on Tuesday.
